InvisalignĀ® clear aligners designed for growing smiles.

Your child’s smile is still growing, and sometimes, a little early guidance can make a big difference.

Invisalign Firstā„¢ is designed specifically for younger children who may benefit from early orthodontic treatment, even while they still have a mix of baby and permanent teeth.

At Greater Northwest Orthodontics, board-certified orthodontist Dr. Tripti Pawar creates personalized Invisalign First treatment plans around your child’s unique smile, growth, and needs.

What is Invisalign First?

Invisalign First is clear aligner treatment created specifically for the unique needs of growing smiles.

While Invisalign is often associated with teens and adults, Invisalign First allows certain younger children to begin Phase 1 orthodontic treatment while their jaws are still developing and permanent teeth are still coming in.

Early orthodontic treatment may help:

  • Create room for incoming permanent teeth
  • Address crowded or improperly positioned teeth
  • Improve certain bite problems
  • Develop narrow dental arches
  • Guide your child’s smile as it grows

And because Invisalign First uses removable clear aligners instead of brackets and wires, kids can continue eating, brushing, flossing, playing, and smiling with fewer changes to their normal routine.

How does Invisalign First work?

Just like Invisalign for teens and adults, Invisalign First uses a series of custom-made clear aligners to gradually guide your child’s teeth into healthier positions.

Your child’s treatment begins with a comfortable digital scan, no messy impressions needed.

Dr. Pawar uses this detailed scan along with a comprehensive orthodontic evaluation to create a personalized treatment plan for your child’s developing teeth and bite.

Your child will typically wear their aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day, removing them to eat, drink anything besides water, brush, and floss.

As their smile changes, they’ll progress through a series of aligners designed to keep treatment moving according to Dr. Pawar’s plan.

Benefits of Invisalign First for kids

Invisalign First is designed to make early orthodontic treatment easier to fit into childhood, for kids and their parents.

Removable for meals

No long list of foods to avoid. Your child can remove their aligners to eat, so they can continue enjoying the foods they love throughout treatment.

Easier brushing & flossing

Because the aligners are removable, kids can brush and floss normally without having to clean around brackets and wires.

Comfortable for growing smiles

Invisalign First aligners are custom-made from smooth material, with no metal brackets or wires to rub or poke the inside of your child’s mouth.

Made for active kids

Soccer practice? Dance class? Playing an instrument? Sleepover? Invisalign First fits into the activities your child already loves.

Nearly invisible

Clear aligners are discreet, so your child’s changing smile gets the attention, not their orthodontic treatment.

Is my child a candidate for Invisalign First?

Invisalign First is designed for children who need Phase 1 orthodontic treatment while their smiles are still developing.

It can address a range of orthodontic concerns, including:

But not every child needs early treatment, and Invisalign First isn’t the right solution for every growing smile.

Dr. Pawar provides truly comprehensive orthodontic care and will evaluate your child’s teeth, jaws, bite, and development before recommending treatment.

Depending on your child’s needs, she may recommend Invisalign First, braces, an orthodontic appliance, another treatment approach, or simply monitoring their smile as they grow.

Our goal isn’t to start treatment as soon as possible. It’s to recommend the right treatment at the right time for your child.

Invisalign First vs. Braces for Kids

Both Invisalign First and braces can be effective options for early orthodontic treatment.Ā

The right choice depends on your child’s orthodontic needs, and the type of treatment they’ll be most successful with.

Invisalign First may be a great fit for kids who:

  • Prefer clear, removable treatment
  • Want to continue eating their favorite foods
  • Play sports or musical instruments
  • Can keep track of their aligners
  • Are responsible enough to wear them consistently
  • Would benefit from easier brushing and flossing during treatment

Because aligners are removable, your child’s cooperation matters. Invisalign First needs to be worn consistently to work according to plan.

For children who aren’t ready for that responsibility, or whose orthodontic needs would be better addressed another way, braces or another treatment may make more sense.

Because GNW offers comprehensive orthodontic care beyond Invisalign, Dr. Pawar can recommend the option that truly makes the most sense for your child’s smile.

What is the best age for Invisalign First?

Invisalign First is designed for younger children who are in the Phase 1 stage of orthodontic development, typically around ages 6 to 10.

Every child loses baby teeth, develops permanent teeth, and grows at a slightly different pace.

That’s why an orthodontic evaluation is more useful than trying to determine whether your child is ready for treatment based on age alone.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children receive their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7.

That doesn’t mean your 7-year-old automatically needs Invisalign or braces.

An early visit simply gives Dr. Pawar the opportunity to evaluate how their teeth, jaws, and bite are developing and determine whether treatment could be beneficial now, or whether it’s better to give their smile more time to grow.

How much does Invisalign First cost?

The cost of Invisalign First depends on your child’s individual orthodontic needs and treatment plan.

FAQs About Invisalign for Kids

Invisalign First is generally designed for children around ages 6 to 10. However, your child’s dental development matters more than their exact age.

Dr. Pawar will evaluate their teeth, jaws, bite, and growth to determine whether they’re ready for Invisalign First or another type of orthodontic treatment.

Not necessarily.

Age 7 is the recommended time for a child’s first orthodontic evaluation, but many children don’t need treatment at that age.

An early evaluation allows Dr. Pawar to identify developing orthodontic concerns and determine the best time to address them. If your child doesn’t need treatment yet, we can simply monitor their smile as they grow.

Invisalign First can address many developing orthodontic concerns, including crowded teeth, gaps and spacing, narrow dental arches, and certain bite and alignment problems.

Your child’s treatment options will ultimately depend on how their teeth, jaws, and bite are developing.

Invisalign aligners should typically be worn for 20 to 22 hours each day and removed for eating, drinking anything besides water, brushing, and flossing.

Consistent wear is important. If Dr. Pawar believes your child would be more successful with a treatment that doesn’t depend on remembering to wear aligners, she may recommend braces or another option.

Yes. Because Invisalign First aligners are removable, your child takes them out before eating and can continue enjoying their normal foods without the food restrictions associated with braces.

Neither option is automatically better.

Invisalign First offers clear, removable treatment and makes eating, brushing, and flossing simple. Braces don’t depend on your child remembering to wear or keep track of their aligners and may be preferable for certain orthodontic needs.

Dr. Pawar will recommend the treatment that makes the most sense for your child’s smile, development, and lifestyle.
